Our first view of the city...
Well, we made it to New York and experienced our first glimpse of the city. We got off the subway at 34th and Broadway and were like "now what?!" I was having flashbacks to Shibuya Crossing and subways in Japan – haha! We were glad to have that experience behind us so getting around on the subway here didn't seem that confusing (so far).
This is Trevor and his friend Lauren who moved to NY about 6 months ago. Luckily they were there to meet us when we got off the subway. We met up with her, a friend and her mother and they took us out to dinner at this really fun 50’s diner (Stardust Diner) where they sing and dance while waiting tables. The singers were all great and it was alot of fun.
We got a glimpse of Times Square while we were there and it was really neat to see. Man this sure is a hopping city on a Saturday night (but I'm sure it's hopping most of the time too).
We tried to go to the top of the Empire State Building tonight after dinner but a thunder storm rolled in and we were warned that there was pretty much zero visibility and the outdoor observation deck would likely be closed due to the lightning - so we decided to try to do that another day instead.
Self-portrait while waiting for the subway after a long tiring day. It was pretty warm here today and with the rain we were all wet and sweaty and feeling pretty gross. Couldn't wait to get back to the hotel and shower. It was a long day after getting up around 3:15am - but a fun one. Our first day in New York has been a memorable one :)!!!
